PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling arc start in gas shielded arc welding by which arc start processing is performed after detecting the flow rate of gas in welding start part and determining that it is an appropriate flow rate of gas.;SOLUTION: The method of controlling arc start in the gas shielded arc welding is provided by which the spouting of the shield gas is started when a welding start signal is input to the welding power source, then arc start processing is started after a predetermined preflow time is elapsed. In the method, the flow rate of gas is monitored by using as input, a signal from a gas flow sensor for detecting the flow rate of the shield gas (S1). Whether the flow rate of gas is within a predetermined range or not is determined at the point of time when the preflow time is elapsed (S5). When it is determined that the flow rate of gas is within the predetermined range, the arc start processing is started (S6). When it is determined that the flow rate is out of the predetermined range, the arc start processing is waited until the flow rate of gas falls within the predetermined range (S7). The occurrence of defective welding caused by excess or shortage of the flow rate of gas is prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
