PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high purity magnesium silicide with high efficiency.;SOLUTION: The method for producing magnesium silicide includes a step (S10) of preparing a treatment object consisting mainly of Si; and a step (S20) of bringing Mg vapor into contact with the treatment object in a state where the treatment object is being heated. When the step (S10) of bringing Mg vapor into contact is carried out, a preferred heating temperature of the treatment object is 500-1,500°C.
