The method involves detecting a measured value of a deformation of a tire, and calculating a wheel load (RLb) acting on the tire with the help of the measured deformation and a set of equations and equation parameters. The wheel load or one of variables depending on the wheel load is detected from an external system. The calculated wheel load is compared with the detected wheel load. Adaptation of the equations and/or the equation parameters is performed based on the comparison. The equations and/or the equation parameters are stored in a transponder that is installed in or on the tire. An independent claim is also included for a measuring system for determining a wheel load.
