Oil is directed into a frame (8) formed by an arm (1) connected to the side of a boat hull (2), and then transported by a screw (10) into a collection vessel connected to the inside of the boat. A device for collecting oil spills is used in combination with a boat and comprises a pair of arms for connecting to the side of the hull at the water level. Each arm comprises a semi-cylindrical frame with an open top side and a deflector (11) on its front side pointing in a downwards and forwards direction in order to direct the oil spill into the frame. A holding wall (12) formed by an extension of the deflector extends in an upwards and forwards direction to a height sufficient to prevent the oil spill passing over the arm. A screw inside the frame transports the oil towards a collection vessel at the inner end of the arm and oil is transferred from this vessel to the inside of the boat by suction.
