The present invention refers to a method for obtaining a natural gum for chewing gum by processing the latex resulting from milkweed (Asclepias aff. notha). The use of the milkweed starts by the collection of latex using a comfrey (Pittocaulon praecox) container, a glass container and/or eppendorf tubes. For the latex extraction it is performed a transversal cut of the stem, a cut of the tip, a removal of the leaves and/or sectional cuts previously performed along the stem in order to stimulate the latex secretion. The latex is collected and transported at room temperature (20°C to 25°C) using a heat method; or at 4°C using cold method. In the method using heat as a means for obtaining the gum, the total amount of collected latex is added with water in a ratio of 1:2 latex: water and subjected to heat during a period of 10 min to 15 min or until latex is boiling. Latex is then cooled so as to be subsequently collected. In the method using cold as a means for obtaining gum, the contain er with the collected latex is subjected at a temperature of 0°C for a period of 24 hrs. The precipitated gum is subsequently collected using a spatula.
