The method involves forming regulation contact (FR), and forming adaptation contact as a function of an average value (FRM). Changes in the adaptation contact (FRA) takes place synchronously with an actualization of the regulation contact. The changes swap the regulation contact synchronously for the changes in the adaptation contact. The changes of the adaptation contact are partly compensated. The changes in the adaptation contact takes place at same time like the changes of the regulation contact. An independent claim is also included for a controller for an internal combustion engine.
