A resistivity measurement technique estimates (909) a first value for a firstparameter consistent with an assumption that each property of a measuredelectrical signal (904) senses the first electrical parameter and a secondelectrical parameter in substantially the same volume and estimates (909) asecond value of the first electrical parameter consistent with the estimatedfirst value and consistent with each property of the measured electricalsignal (904) sensing the first electrical parameter and the second electricalparameter in different volumes. Applying this technique, a phase conductivitymay be determined (909) from only a phase shift measurement. An attenuationconductivity may then be determined (909) based on an attenuation measurementand the phase conductivity. Since bandwidth is limited in data telemetry to anearth surface while drilling, phase shift measurements can be telemeteredwithout attenuation measurements for accomplishing resistivity measurements.
