A protein fragment derived from the C terminus of AHNAK proteins to force liquation in skeletal muscle is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a nucleic acid encoding the claimed protein or its fragment, mutant or derivative which exhibits the same characteristics; (2) a vector or plasmid containing DNA encoding the claimed protein fragment; (3) a host cell containing the above vector; and (4) an antibody against the claimed protein fragment for detecting and/or treating myopathies and myasthenia.
