A method for evaluating a process using at least one measured control circuit input, involves generating a prognosticated model of the process using parameter estimation, calculating a residual control circuit model, and using an orthogonal analysis method to locate orthogonal latent variables. The residual disturbance model is calculated and a time series analysis is carried out via the residual disturbance model error, by using the model control circuit delay to break down the residual disturbance model into a controllable unit and a non-controllable unit. A control circuit function identifier number is computed as a ratio of a standard deviation of the measured control circuit output. An Independent claim is given for an appliance for evaluating a process with at least one measured control circuit input.
