Visualization and measurement of eddies and pressure vibrations in fluid flows using a laser Doppler interferometer that does not require seeding of the fluid with a microphone for measurement of eddy dissipation
Measurement arrangement comprises a laser Doppler interferometer (1) with a scanner (2) and an analysis device (4) for representation of results, an optical reflector (5) and a signal generator (6). The signal generator is positioned to generate pressure variations in the gas flow (3), while at the same time carrying a thermometer, microphone, pressure transducer of interferometer. The scanner directs a laser beam towards the reflector and the analysis unit uses interference between reflected and reference beams to detect period eddies or vibrations. A microphone is used to measure the dissipation of the smallest eddies into sound energy.
