Scintillator used in computer tomography comprises an arrangement of scintillator imaging elements, a scintillator light-reflecting layer to reflect the scintillator light from the imaging elements, and an X-ray absorption layer
Scintillator comprises an arrangement of scintillator imaging elements (3a-3c); a scintillator light-reflecting layer (5) to reflect the scintillator light from the imaging elements; and an X-ray absorption layer (2) made from a high density X-ray absorption material selectively formed in the first regions above interscintillator regions (4a-4c). The scintillator light-reflecting layer is formed in the interscintillator regions between the imaging elements. Independent claims are also included for an alternative scintillator arrangement and a process for the production of a scintillator. Preferred Features: The X-ray absorption layer comprises a dielectric made from an epoxide and the X-ray absorption material consists of hafnium, tantalum, tungsten, rhenium, platinum, gold, lead or their alloys. The X-ray absorption material is 0.0001-0.08 inches thick.
