A method for emergency prevention of traffic operation/ movement within a track section divided into track notification sections. The track notification of the track notification section is carried out according to the principle of counting the axles of trains which have negotiated the track system. Detection of rail breakage or fracture is carried out in the track sections which at the most have the length of a track notification section, and which are arranged within the track notification section. Rail fracture or breakage detection devices within a track notification section act on the track monitoring device of this section in such a way that the associated section of track is signalled as, or indicated as, 'busy' or 'occupied' when a rail fracture or breakage is detected.
