The invention pertains to a method for performing a digital-to-analog conversion at a high resolution and to a digital-to-analog converter. In accordance with the invention, a digital binary input is converted in a plurality of separate weighted portions, the pulse outputs of which are summed in an analog manner and low-pass filtered. In applications where the process controlled is low-pass in nature, filtering is not needed. Portioned conversion is usually performed using pulse-width modulation (PWM) and the weighted portions may also overlap.
