PURPOSE: To provide a library service protocol for moving a large-scale data object between data image libraries in consideration of the secrecy protection, authentication, and consistency of relative images stored in different computers. CONSTITUTION: A library client 10 is a work station including a cache 17. A library server 12 has a catalog storage device 19 storing data describing library contents. Image servers 14 and 15 have an image storage device 20 assigned to the image server 14 and an image storage device 21 assigned to the image server 15. An application process 25 which is executed allow many users 26 and 28 as the library client 10. The users grant images to the library for storage by a document input/output suite 30. The document input/output suite 30 or an image retrieved from the library is also converted in format into a CRT image or print document.
