The rotary cultivator has a transverse shaft (1) with mounting flanges (2) spaced along its length. Each flange is provided with four pairs of holes for mounting blades (4) with inclined working portions (5). The working portion of each blade forms an angle of at least 135 deg. with the mounting portion. Diametrically opposed blades are mounted on opposite sides of the flanges with their inclined portions facing in opposite directions. This results in trapezoidal sections being cut from the soil during operation of the machine.
