Class 29 [Also in Group XXVII] In reciprocating apparatus such as a refrigerator operating on the reversed hot-gas engine e principle, having a crankcase 26 . containing lubricant and a gas subject to pressure variations due to the movement of a piston, gas containing lubricant in a finely- divided state flows through a non-return valve 28, during the high-pressure periods, to a separator 29 from which liquid lubricant mixed with part of the lubricant-free gas returns to the crankcase: a regulator 31 may be provided to control the amount of lubricant. As shown, the separator comprises a T-shaped duct, the lubricant being deposited on the vertical wall and dripping down into a pipe 30. Part of the lubricant-free gas passes upwards into a pipe 32 and through a non-return valve 33 to a working space between a piston 22 and a displacer 21. The engine comprises the usual heater 23, regenerator 24 and cooler 25.
