    • 摘要: This paper examines dependencies of voice and video contents on human perception of group (or inter-destination) synchronization error in remote learning by Quality of Experience (QoE) assessment. In our assessment, we use two videos and three voices (two voices for one video and one voice for the other video). We also investigate influences of silence periods in the voices and temporal relations between the voices and videos (called the tightly-coupled and loosely-coupled contents here). The voices are spoken by a teacher according to the videos. Each subject as a student assesses the group synchronization quality by watching each lecture video and the corresponding explanation voice, and then the subject answers whether he/she perceives the group synchronization error or not. As a result, assessment results illustrate that silence periods mitigate the perception rate of the error, and we can also find that we can more easily perceive the error for tightly-coupled contents than loosely-coupled ones.

    • 摘要: Purpose:Onset-based differences are understudied in Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder(ANSD)in dimensions such as voice,which is addressed in the study.The study aimed to profile and predict the best metrics of onset-related differences in acoustic vocal characteristics of early and late-onset ANSD patients.Methods:31 participants(15 early and 16 late-onset)aged 15e30 years diagnosed with ANSD were included in the study.The sustained phonation of vowel/i/recorded by the participants using android based smartphones of selected configuration was sent over email to the experimenter.Acoustic parameters(fundamental frequency,harmonic frequencies,jitter,shimmer,harmonic-to-noise ratio,cepstral peak prominence-CPP,and pitch sigma)were analysed using Praat software.Results:Results revealed significantly increased(p<0.05)fundamental frequency along with decreased F2 and F3 of/i/in the early-onset ANSD compared to the late-onset group,which can be explained based on differences in the pathophysiology of the disorder.Although not statistically significant,mean perturbations(jitter and shimmer),harmonic-to-noise ratio,cepstral peak prominence,and pitch sigma were more affected in the early-onset group,reflective of lowered auditory feedback and periodicity in their voice samples.Results of discriminant analysis marked the emergence of F2,F3,and CPP as the most sensitive metrics for onset-based group differences in voice characteristics.Conclusions:The findings from the study highlight the role of acoustical voice evaluation(especially CPP,F2&F3)in verifying the onset of ANSD disorder.The insights from the onset-based differences seen in vocal characteristics can indirectly help audiologists in deciding the management options for ANSD.

    • 摘要: “Naming of Parts”and“plato told”are two poems written respectively by Henry Reed and E.E.Cummings during the Second World War.“Naming of Parts”depicts the opposition and assimilation of two voices in the poem while“plato told”features the contrast between the silenced voices and an accentuated voice in the poem.The two poems suggest that submitting oneself to the speech pattern typical of military personnel leads to the loss of one’s voice,individuality,and ultimately one’s life.Overall,these two poems reveal the connection between a person’s voice and individuality in a war and demonstrate a clear antiwar attitude.

    • 摘要: Voice is an important topic in academic writing research.Despite increasing research interest,voice has remained a contentious topic.In the article:On the Use of the Passive and Active Voice in Astrophysics Journal Papers:With Extensions to other Languages and other Fields,an interesting hypothesis has been put forward:“Writers of methods sections in this field tend to use we+active when they have made a unique procedural choice or have introduced some technical innovation.On the other hand,the passive seems to be used when authors are simply following established or standard procedures.”Based on the existing research,this paper chooses to study the active and passive forms in the methods section of research articles,and we examine the frequency of the active and passive verb forms in the methods section of two linguistics journal articles.And to verify an old hypothesis:The we+active is used for new stuff,while the passive is preferred for old stuff,this paper will examine the we+active forms and passive verb forms the in methods section in two linguistic journal articles.

    • 摘要: The analysis argues for a revised classification of discourse within mainstream communication scholarship that recognizes only content and relational elements.Using Posner’s(1982)semiotic work on poetic communication and drawing from Peirce’s trichotomy of signs,we see that an aesthetic dimension of a First subsists within all events of discourse.The significant effects/affects of Firstness transpire along a continuum depending upon the operative interpretants in a given context.Taking the voice of enunciation as a phonetic exemplar of an extra-linguistic aesthetic,I then examine the functions of poetic iconicity provided by Brandt’s(2013)typology,discussing it in relation to Peirce’s triadic structure and the art of conversation.Clarifying the semiotic and phenomenological affordances for each component of discourse provides a communicological perspective.Overall,such a treatment lends theoretical support for the commonsense assumption that conversation is an art form.Conversation potentializes aesthetic experience in Dewey’s sense of the term.
