    • 摘要: In the course of the outbreak of COVID-19, the Nigerian society adopted digital life as an alternative to physical interaction so as to keep afloat in the period of the lockdown. This option brought about a lot of changes especially in the usage of communication facilities. Many Nigerians that are not willing to have Internet connectivity had no option than to accept the reality on ground. This work examines the related literatures within and outside Nigeria. Thereafter, it examined the usage level and satisfaction of the users through questionnaires administering to the subscribers of different cellular networks available. The questionnaires were administered in Akure to the cellular subscribers of MTN, GLO, Airtel and 9mobile randomly. Afterwards, the data were analyzed and discussion of the results of each component of the questionnaires was done. The study revealed that MTN subscribers are more and most respondents are just using 4G services within 1 - 6 months durations. Also, the studies established that those respondents always on 4G Services are more than any other class in a day. Thus, this work established that COVID-19 pandemic brought changes to the daily activities, thus, a shift to digital life among the subscribers.

    • 摘要: Inflammatory periodontal disease known as periodontitis is one of the most common conditions that affect human teeth and often leads to tooth loss.Due to the complexity of the periodontium,which is composed of several tissues,its regeneration and subsequent return to a homeostatic state is challenging with the therapies currently available.Cellular therapy is increasingly becoming an alternative in regenerative medicine/dentistry,especially therapies using mesenchymal stem cells,as they can be isolated from a myriad of tissues.Periodontal ligament stem cells(PDLSCs)are probably the most adequate to be used as a cell source with the aim of regenerating the periodontium.Biological insights have also highlighted PDLSCs as promising immunomodulator agents.In this review,we explore the state of knowledge regarding the properties of PDLSCs,as well as their therapeutic potential,describing current and future clinical applications based on tissue engineering techniques.

    • 摘要: One of today’s actual problems in the field of antennas is the possibility of developing a small wideband antenna,which can work without grounding.Absence of these antennas can lead to serious problems for example in case of designing small transceivers for cellular systems.In this article we show a proposed version of these antennas.Today there do not exist theoretical investigations of connections between electromagnetic fields and currents in flat metallic plates.Therefore,the basis of this work is optimization of proposed antenna construction by simulations.

    • 摘要: A variety of sensing and monitoring systems have been developed based on the concept of open-source and on open-source hardware and software components. Availability and relatively low cost of hardware components and availability and ease of use of software components allow access to sensing and monitoring technologies that were previously unattainable to many potential users. Advances in electronic monitoring and evolving cellular communications technologies are increasingly offering more, simpler, and less expensive options for remote monitoring. Due to the near-future cessation of 2G and 3G cellular network services, however, many existing monitoring systems will need to be redesigned to operate on alternative cellular networks. A soil-moisture monitoring system was developed incorporating updated open-source Arduino microcontrollers and the recently introduced LTE Cat-M1 cellular network to transmit sensor measurements via the cellular network for access on an internet website. The monitoring system costs approximately US$130 to construct the electronic circuitry and less than US$1 per month for cellular network access and data transmission. Data were transmitted with a 95% success rate, and the monitoring system operated continuously throughout an entire crop growing season with no battery recharge or maintenance requirements. The design and operation of the monitoring system can serve as a basis for other remote monitoring systems.

    • 摘要: From late December 2019 a new human-adapted coronavirus,SARS-CoV-2,was observed and isolated in clustered patients in Wuhan,China.It has been proved to be able to transmit human-to-human and cause pneumonia,leading to about 2%fatality.Its genome characteristics,immune responses and related potential treatments,such as chemical drugs,serum transfusion and vaccines including DNA vaccines,are discussed in this review for a brief summary.

    • 摘要: The early history of life harbours many unresolved evolutionary questions, none more important than the genomic origin and cellular evolution of eukaryotes. An issue central to eukaryote origin concerns the position of eukaryotes in the tree of life and the relationship of the host lineage that acquired the mitochondrion some two billion years ago to lineages of modern-day archaea. Recent analyses indicate that the host lineage branches within the Archaea, prompting the search for novel archaeal lineages that can improve our understanding of the cellular evolution of eukaryotes. Here we give a brief review of the studies on Archaea, the tree of life and the cellular evolution of eukaryotes, which is followed by an overview of recent progress fueled by new genomic technologies and recent status of archaeal research in China. Future directions for the study of early evolution are considered.

    • 摘要: Objective: This study was to investigate the effect of the Chinese herbal compound Kanggan granule (KG) on immune function in a mouse model of immunosuppression and its possible mechanism of action. Method: ICR mice were randomly divided into a normal control group (untreated non-immunosuppressed, Control), untreated immunosuppressed group (Model), positive control group (immunosuppressed and treated with 1.6 g/kg astragalus granule [AG]), high-dose KG group (immunosuppressed and treated with 24 g/kg, KG-24), and low-dose KG group (immunosuppressed and treated with 6 g/kg, KG-6). Each group received intragastric administration once daily for 7 days. Immunosuppression was induced by an intraperitoneal injection of dexamethasone (25 mg/kg) once daily beginning on day 1 for 3 days. To illuminate the mechanism of immunomodulatory, we studied the effects of KG on nonspecific immunity, humoral immunity and cellular immunity in mice respectively. Results: KG improved organ weights and improved the phagocytic ability of mononuclear macrophages in immunosuppressed mice (p p < 0.05). The proliferation of spleen lymphocytes and number of peripheral blood leukocytes were enhanced after KG treatment in immunosuppressed mice (p +/CD8+ ratio in immunosuppressed mice (p p Conclusions: KG can improve immune function in immunosuppressed mice. Nonspecific immunity, humoral immunity, and cellular immunity were all enhanced.

    • 摘要: The widespread mobile station’s antennas and the continued increase in the number of mobile phones users throughout the Gaza strip causing great panic in the population relating the debate overexposure to electromagnetic radiation EMR emitted from the antennas of mobile base stations. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure the levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted from the antennas of cellular base stations in Gaza governorate as well as to evaluate the citizen’s awareness and practices regarding potential health risks and mitigation methods of exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted from cellular base stations, respectively. Fifty cellular base stations out of 197 stations were selected depending on the criteria of selecting one site per kilometer using Global Positioning System (GPS). Electromagnetic power density, electric field strength, and the magnetic field strength emitted from cellular base stations were measured using Narda-550. Assessment tool for observation was used to collect operational information of each station. A structured questionnaire with four-level Likert rating scale was used to survey 384 mobile phone users from the areas surrounding the selected cellular base stations. The results showed that the electromagnetic radiation levels of all stations were low and less than the national and international acceptable limits. Furthermore, the awareness of participant about health risks that could result from exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted from cellular base stations and mobile phones was low. Nevertheless, the participant’s practices in mitigating the adverse impacts of electromagnetic radiation emitted from cellular base stations and mobile phones on their health were good.

    • 摘要: Extra virgin olive oil is characterized by its high content of unsaturated fatty acid residues in triglycerides,mainly oleic acid,and the presence of bioactive and antioxidant compounds.Its consumption is associated with lower risk of suffering chronic diseases and unwanted processes linked to aging,due to the antioxidant capacity and capability of its components to modulate cellular signaling pathways.Consumption of olive oil can alter the physiology of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs).This may explain part of the healthy effects of olive oil consumption,such as prevention of unwanted aging processes.To date,there are no specific studies on the action of olive oil on MSCs,but effects of many components of such food on cell viability and differentiation have been evaluated.The objective of this article is to review existing literature on how different compounds of extra virgin olive oil,including residues of fatty acids,vitamins,squalene,triterpenes,pigments and phenols,affect MSC maintenance and differentiation,in order to provide a better understanding of the healthy effects of this food.Interestingly,most studies have shown a positive effect of these compounds on MSCs.The collective findings support the hypothesis that at least part of the beneficial effects of extra virgin olive oil consumption on health may be mediated by its effects on MSCs.

    • 摘要: Cellular therapy may be the solution of challenging problems in colorectal surgery such as impaired healing leading to anastomotic leakage and metastatic colorectal cancer(CRC). This review aimed to illustrate the role of cellular therapy in promotion of wound healing and management of metastatic CRC. An organized literature search for the role of cellular therapy in promotion of wound healing and management of metastatic CRC was conducted. Electronic databases including PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Embase were queried for the search process. Two types of cellular therapy have been recognized, the mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) and bone marrow-mononuclear cells(BM-MNCs) therapy.These cells have been shown to accelerate and promote healing of various tissue injuries in animal and human studies. In addition, experimental studies have reported that MSCs may help suppress the progression of colon cancer in rat models. This article reviews the possible mechanisms of action and clinical utility of MSCs and BM-MNCs in promotion of healing and suppression of tumor growth in light of the published literature. Cellular therapy has a potentially important role in colorectal surgery, particularly in the promotion of wound healing and management of metastatic CRC. Future directions of cellular therapy in colorectal surgery were explored which may help stimulate futures studies on the role of cellular therapy in colorectal surgery.
