This paper presents a prototype low-NO_x natural gas fired air-heater for use in both greenhouses and poultry houses developed by Gasunie Research and Priva Climo Agri. This was necessary due to stricter NO_x regulations to be expected in the near future for air heaters. A nozzle-mix-type of burner, based on the so-called dish burner used in industrial boilers has been engineered and tested to satisfaction.rnTo measure the amount of ethene - produced during starting and stopping of the burner and extremely harmful for crops in greenhouses - an experimental method has been developed that can reproducibly follow transient ethene formation. This measuring method proved to be particularly helpful in optimising the burner towards a very low ethene emission.
