This paper presents various strategies in arnsystematic way to reduce both differential mode (DM) andrncommon mode (CM) noise using passive filter in a dc-fedrnmotor drive. The type of grounding and components used isrnthe key to a good design in order to optimize filter size andrnperformance. Grounding schemes, materials comparisonrn(ferrite vs. nanocrystalline core) and a new integrated filterrnstructure are addressed. The latter maximizes the windowrnarea of the ferrite core and increases its leakage inductancernby integrating on the same core both CM and DMrninductances. Small- and large-signal experiments arernconducted to verify the validity of the structure showing anrneffective size reduction and a good improvement at low andrnhigh frequency.
