In most organizations, performance management consists of objective setting, appraisal of the employee, and appropriate rewards and recognition. This paper reviews the rationale for performance measures and rewards, provides case examples of linking performance measures to an incentive/award system, and outlines possibilities for the use of gainsharing for part of the rewards and recognition.
