Snecma Moteurs is continuously improving the design of combustors to reduce the emissions. This effort has lead Snecma to the successful development of several demonstrators of staged combustors since the end of the seventies. Nevertheless strong reduction of pollutants emissions like NOx, CO, and soot is still needed for future efficient engines in view of preserving current air quality standards. Today the lean combustion concept appears as one of the most promising solutions. It can be implemented through the LPP (Lean Premixed Prevaporised) technology which represents a technological break-through regarding actual experience and ability. Technological principles and principal related difficulties are then described. Since the use of CFD is necessary during design of new concepts, two applications are specially expounded: Evaluation of NOx emissions and Minimisation of thermal fouling risk inside the LPP. A detailed description of the Nox model and associated validation are given.
