The ability to evaluate the potential for corrosion and SCC under disbonded coatings on pipelines as a function of external factors (soils, coating types, disbondment geometry, and applied potential) is important for the pipeline industry. Such an evaluation is part of locating SCC-susceptible sites under the Direct Assessment approach for pipeline integrity management. This paper reviews the modeling approaches that have been applied to date and compares the model predictions to experimental observations. These models are placed in the overall context of crevice corrosion models. Claps in knowledge and areas for further development are outlined.
