摘要

Recent studies show that semi-active vibration control systems using Magnetorheological (MR) dampers have most of the good characteristics of passive and active control systems. Their applications in mitigating dynamic effects produced by seismic and wind loads on civil engineering structures are quite promising. In this paper a new form of semi-active damping device using MR Fluid for vibration control of structures is proposed. A model of the proposed MR damping device was developed. This paper presents the results of the studies as well as proposals on further research on the MR damping device including experimental tests and control strategies so that the potential of its applications in seismic and wind-induced vibration control of structures can be further explored.
