Environmental and Genetic Risk Analysis for Gastric Cancer in a Chinese Population

A 1∶1 case-control study was accomplished in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. A conditional-logistic regression model was used to determine environmental and genetic risk factors among 374 cases of gastric cancer patients and controls. The environmental risk factors of gastric cancer in the Nanjing area are family history of tumor, tobacco smoking, consumption of pickled food, engorgement after hunger, irregular dietary habits,and lack of fruit intake. The genetic risk factors are genetic polymorphisms of CYP2E1, NAT2M1, NAT2M2, XRCC1,and IL-1B. The results suggest that genetic polymorphisms and environmental risk factors play co-operating roles in the development of gastric cancer.
