Practical backhaul balance with constraint on radio quality

With the introduction of new technologies and the evolution of small cells, the demand on the backhaul become the new challenge facing the mobile communication systems. All practical radio optimisation algorithms currently neglect the backhaul information assuming that the backhaul capacity is always unlimited and that the main bottleneck is in the access radio links. Congestion in backhaul results in a large delay a bad impact on the QoE. In this work, we present a practical framework for load balancing where the radio parameters are subject to change to balance the backhaul utilisation while maintaining specific accepted radio performance. Trials are conducted in a live network showing promising enhancement for the backhaul resources utilisation and the user experience.
