摘要

The inclusion of OxySite disks within macroencapsulation constructs resulted in a significant shift in human pancreatic islet viability and function, with translation to human beta cell sources. This indicates that OxySite disk has the potential to reduce hypoxia-induced human beta cell loss during islet transplantation, particularly for high cell loading density implants. With these promising results, and the scalability of the OxySite disk platform, this approach could be further translated to clinical use. Future work will explore the potential of this platform to improve islet transplantation outcome in both diabetic rodent animal models and larger animal models.
