The high pressure water jet technology has been developing as a kind of new technology for about 40 years. It has found a broad range of usage in areas of industrial cleaning, incision, and mining of coal seam, petroleum and chemical field etc. Under the rapid development of theories and applied technologies of high pressure water jet, the research has been valued quietly both at home and abroad. The law of rock broken dynamically is the core of high pressure water jet assisted drilling mechanism research. Since the performance of drilling in rock strata is affected by many factors and the laws of influence among them are quite complex, the mechanisms of high pressure water jet assisted drilling has yet been revealed fully and accurately. The conditions of the high pressure water jet assisted drilling mechanism was in retrospect, the key points and problems of the theory research were evaluated and analyzed. In the meanwhile, the research direction and recommendations were made. Research into the mechanism of high pressure water jet drilling will benefit its application in gas drainage area as well as in other application areas.
