摘要

To accommodate new industries in the north-west part of the Maasvlakte more space is required. Therefore the Port of Rotterdam commissioned Rotterdam Public Works Ingenieursbureau to investigate the reclamation of land at the northside of the Europaharbour. From historical data it was known that on that location sandwinning up to depths of 50 m below N.A.P. was carried out some 20 years ago. After this sandwinning the site was used as a dumplocation for fine materials. An extensive soil investigation has been performed to determine the subsoil-conditions. After the analysis of the geotechnical data several possible solutions, including alternative designs for mooring facilities, were considered. This paper discusses the possible options and the selection of the methods to construct the hydraulic filling of the area with emphasis on the dam construction. Subsequently the construction process will be described. Finally conclusions and recommendations are presented.
