There have been several definitions for attitude dilution of precision (ADOP) developed by the GPS community. A specific definition has been incorporated into Trimble's Force 19 attitude-capable receiver, which is embedded in Honeywell's Space Integrated GPS/INS (SIGI) for the International Space Station and Crew Return Vehicle. Similarities and differences among this definition of ADOP and others, including definitions of geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) and position dilution of precision (PDOP) are discussed. Results are shown of the attitude solution and the corresponding ADOP from the SIGI for ground and orbital testing. The results indicate that the ADOP is a good indication of the quality of the GPS attitude solution when the satellite and antenna geometries are the only contributors to the attitude solution integrity. When multipath is introduced as an error source, it causes attitude solution errors that are not tracked by the ADOP.
