Shiraz, also known as Syrah, is one of Australia's most popular red wine varieties. Some Australian Shiraz wines have a positive 'spicy' / 'peppery' note. The 'pepper' flavour can be perceived in individual 'peppery' berries and deseeded Shiraz grape berry homogenates. There are 'peppery' vineyards, which consistently produce 'peppery' wines, especially in cooler years.
