Phenoxycarboxylic acids like 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T are widely used herbicides and represent a group of chlorinated compounds which are of high interest for the safety of ground water as well as surface water (chemical structures see Figure 1). The most common approach is to perform direct large volume injection of the sample, but LOD's are limited due to the relatively poor response of the compounds in negative electrospray modus. Moreover the matrix effects the ionization process given rise to ion suppression or ion enhancement for the different analytes, potentially leading to incorrect results. In this work a new fully automated method is presented combining cleanup on a low pressure SPE system and a high pressure online SPE system.
