1. Chemically Enhanced Differential M obility Spectroscopy (DMS) was unable to clearly separate isomeric fatty acids. 2. All of the isomeric lipids that were tested showed at least some separation. 3. The separation ability of different modifiers can be linked primarily with their ability to respond to the changes in the fatty acid hydrocarbon chain through hydrophobic interactions. 4. In one case, hydrophilic interactions were found to allow separation. 5. Use of the improved commercial device should lead to even better separation performance.
