摘要

Methyl and propyl paraben concentrations in preterm neonates exposed to clinically indicated medicines fell well below the safety margins for oestrogenic effects of these anti-microbial excipients. While these results are reassuring for infants, this work does not exclude the possibility of children on polypharmacy being exposed to high parabens concentrations. Population EK (excipient kinetics) is currently being modelled using NonMem. A larger multicentre PK/PD study is needed to establish accurate safety limits for neonates of various degrees of maturity.
