摘要

The Mushrooms and Health Global Initiative ( Initiative) is a collaborative project to support public relations efforts that increase the worldwide consumption of mushrooms through the collection, evaluation and dissemination of scientifically validated information. The Initiative provides the scientific underpinning for public relations efforts to customize these benefits according to countries/markets/locale. Introduced during the International Medicinal Mushroom Conference 4 (Slovenia 2007), the Initiative includes representatives from mushroom growing/marketing organizations in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Other countries are encouraged to join this formal structure. The initial start up year (2007-2008) focused on organization and completion of Mushrooms and Health 2008, a scientific report that evaluated the research linking the effects of mushroom consumption on human health. In the five years since then, systems are now in place to focus on communicating these and emerging benefits to various audiences including health influencers, media and the industry through the Mushrooms and Health Global Initiative website. The website houses the biennially updated Mushrooms and Health report, a research news section, and the Initiative's quarterly newsletter, the Bulletin. The Bulletin cites selected abstracts of recently published research and shares communication activities of participating countries to facilitate the global exchange of ideas. Going forward the use of the Internet and social media will enable greater global discussion and participation to identify and communicate compelling reasons for consumers to eat more mushrooms.
