摘要

Universities can play a significant role in forging the path to a sustainable future. Higher education enables young people to find their orientation in a complex and rapidly changing society. The findings of this paper emphasize the importance of sustainable development for national and regional communities. This paper reviews leading universities’ approaches and practices towards sustainability and sustainable campus models. Real life implementation shows the positive impact on the four pillars of sustainability: society, environment, economic and governance. In light of these findings, the paper reviews and highlights Gulf Universities’ efforts (Bahrain) to integrate sustainability in its cultural, educational and physical environments.
