Fusarium verticillioides and Fusarium proliferatum are considered the most important maize fungal pathogens which have the ability to produce fumonisins. Current control strategies of fungal growth rely almost exclusively on the application of antifungal agents. In this study, the effect of fungicide Benomyl on fungal growth was tested in both species in relation with temperature and water potential. The results revealed that temperature and water stress significantly affected the efficiency of benomyl reducing fungal growth, although similarly in both species. This indicated that environmental conditions at the time of application of antifungal should be taken into account to achieve objectives of efficiency in control strategies of fungal contamination.
