In the last decade, several treatment options were proposed to address nonunion fractures as well as critical size bone defects. These procedures include invasive techniques such as internal fixation combined with bone grafts or synthetic bone graftsand minimally invasive techniques such as percutaneous injection of growth factors derived from platelets or total bone marrow, ultrasound and electromagnetic pulse. The use of the percutaneous injection of stromal cells isolated from total bone marrow and expanded in vitro is advantageous in that it is not only an alternative with osteogenic potential, but it has the advantage of being a minimally invasive technique.
