摘要

Transesterification (ethanolysis) is the chemical reaction between triglycerides and ethanol in the presence of catalyst to produce as final product fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) and glycerol. However, the final product can be considered to be a ternary mixture of FAEEs, glycerol, and ethanol. The formation of FAEEs and glycerol may change the distribution of reaction components (catalyst and ethanol) in different phases and influence directly the chemical reaction during the production of biodiesel. After the completion of the reaction, the mixture forms two phases: the glycerin–rich–phase and ethyl esters–rich–phase that can be separated by decantation. On other hand, the inter–solubility of these compounds is also essential data for the ethanol recovery. Therefore, the knowledgement of the phase equilibrium of these systems is an important step for the optimization of the chemical reaction and final separation of the ethyl esters. The objective of this work was to investigate the liquid–liquid equilibrium related to some esters of interest in the production of ethylic biodiesel, in particular the equilibrium data for systems containing ethyl laurate/ethyl palmitate/ethyl oleate/ethyl linoleate + ethanol + glycerol at 323.15, and 353.15 K.
