Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co.KG have developed an HV electric axle drive system meanwhile in its 3rd generation, which is suitable for a wide rage of different vehicles and applications. By means of a modular system it can be adapted in terms of performance and optional functions according to the individual customer's requirements. With its optional electro mechanic torque vectoring system it combines an outstanding electrical performance with enhanced vehicle dynamics and fun-to-drive. Schaeffler is one of the most important suppliers of the automotive industry. With their brands LuK, INA and FAG the Schaeffler Group develop and manufacture components and complete mechatronic systems in the fields of engine valve drives, clutches, gearboxes and all kinds of bearings for the power train. Also the company IDAM belongs to this group, which has corresponding competences in the field of electric motors. 2011 Schaeffler bundled these competences in a "Systems Division E-Mobility" with the goal to develop and offer electrical drive systems for hybrid and electric vehicles. Doing this Schaeffler is supported by cooperative partners like Schaeffler Engineering with their know-how in ECUs and vehicle integration as well as Continental in the field of power electronics. Herewith Schaeffler react on the changed requirements in the automotive industry with its growing demands for electric drive technologies and support the OEMs at their goals to reduce CO_2-emissions and to develop zero-emission vehicles. Amongst several different components for the power train hybridization, like BSAs and separable E-drives in HV- and 48V-technologies, and wheel hub drives in Schaeffler's portfolio there are also complete electrical axle drive systems in a many configurations. A modular system for the e-axle (Picture 1) allows to vary the output power as well as to have an optional application of a gear shifting system in order to expand the usable vehicle speed range. Another option is the integration of an electromechanical torque vectoring system. With this wide range of variants of the e-axle all applications from mild hybrid up to pure electric vehicles can be covered, as FWD, RWD and AWD, and for all kind of vehicles, from commercial vehicle to sport cars.
