The ongoing intensification of the aquaculture sector has led to the development of energetic diets with high lipid content, which can induce an increase in fat depots that may affect animal health and decrease the sector productivity, especially in salmonids. In order to understand the development of adiposity, it is crucial to identify the factors that regulate the formation of adipocytes from precursor cells in the adipose tissue. We have previously shown that primary preadipocytes from rainbow trout differentiate to mature adipocytes in vitro and that these cells may be used as a model system to study adipose tissue development in fish. Therefore, the transcriptomic profile at four different time points (days 3, 8, 15 and 21) along the culture has been investigated using a 60K oligonucleotide microarray platform.
