The commercially available generators for radio-frequency (RF) cardiac catheter ablation employ a propor-tional-integral (PI) controller. Its performance is based on the value of two parameters, K_p and K_i, which are fixed, regardless the electrode type, i.e. different diameter, length, and tempera-ture sensor type. Our aim was to assess by means of theoretical models whether values of K_p and K_i specifically chosen for each electrode type could affect the performance of the tempera-ture-controlled RF cardiac ablation. We used theoretical models solved by the Finite Element Method. The results suggest that the specific choice of K_p and K_i parameters adapted to different types of electrode does not provide a clinically impor-tant enhancement.
