As a new kind of adsorption materials, ionic liquid (IL)-supported silica has been successfully applied in many separation fields. In this study, benzothiazolium hexafluorophosphate-supported silica (SiO_2?Bth~+?PF_6~-) was applied as the useful adsorbent for berberine, which is a natural bioactive alkaloid from traditional Chinese medicine and many plants. The effects of various absorption conditions were investigated, and the following studies showed that the kinetic data could be well described by the second-order kinetic model. Moreover, the isotherm experiments revealed that the Freundlich model yielded a good fitting for the adsorption of target alkaloids. This study is expected to be helpful to expand the application of this kind of IL-supported absorbent in the pharmaceutical and biological fields.
