Metallized polypropylene capacitors with segmented electrodes for DC bus applications were first introduced about 1990.The first products of htis type also had first generation self-protectin systems and assembly techniques that have undeergone substantial refinements.It is now possible to have a single self-proected capacitor that operates at 3300 Vdc for continuous duty and an extended life of 100,000 hours or greater.DC bus capacitor requirements up to 3300 Vdc can now be accomplished by these metallized polypropylene capacitors without hte series wiring and balancing resistors typical of aluminum electrolytics with a complarable volume used.required energy densities are accomplished by factors including efficient low inductance packaging geometries,the use of full impregnation with a non-hazardous dielectric oil,ana recently developed metallized film technologies.
