Searching as Learning: Novel Measures for Information Interaction Research

There is growing recognition of the importance ofrnlearning as a search outcome and of the need to providernsupport for it. Yet, before we can consider learning as arnpart of search, we need to know how to assess it. Thisrnpanel will focus on methods and measures for assessingrnlearning in the context of search tasks and their outcomes.rnThe panel will be interactive as the audience will bernencouraged to engage in contributing their ownrnexperiences and ideas related to measures and methods tornstudy learning as a part of search processes. Ideas andrnexperiences with explicit and implicit indicators ofrnlearning and with evaluating learning outcomes will bernshared during a dialogue between the audience andrnpanelists. Outcomes from the panel discussions willrncontribute to formulating a research agenda for “search asrnlearning.” The outcomes will be shared with the audiencern(and the wider ASIST community).
