The value of information within and across communitiesrnvaries; however, even slight variations in this value mayrndefine boundaries between different worlds. The Theory ofrnInformation Worlds offers a framework for understandingrnsocial information behaviors in these settings. This posterrnreports on the operationalization of the concept ofrnInformation Value and its implications for an ongoingrnproject focusing on the development of codebooks intendedrnto be effective across diverse research contexts andrnmethodologies. Specifically, the concept of InformationrnValue is operationalized and discussed through the lenses ofrnthree different dissertation projects focusing on SouthrnKorean political discourse on Twitter, Ernestine Rose andrnthe Harlem Library, and the digital literacy practices ofrnrole-players in a new Massively Multiplayer Online Role-rnPlaying Game. Implications of Information Value onrnresearch on communities and cultures are also brieflyrndiscussed before describing the project’s next steps.
