Public high school teachers: Organizational commitment and intent to turnover.

This study explored organization commitment and intent to turnover among teacher in public schools in New York City. One hundred and ninety-three teachers participated in a correlational quasi-experimental study that incorporated a multiply survey design yielding quantitative data. Responses from the teachers were collected using the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ), Intent to Turnover Questionnaire (ITT), and a personal data form. The study found that: (a) organizational commitment was negatively correlated to intent to turnover and (b) organizational commitment was not related teachers' personal characteristics such as age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, tenure, or income. To ensure high quality education for youngsters in public high school, organizational commitment should be addressed. Based on the findings of the study, several recommendations were recommended and suggestions for future research.
