Icariin (ICA) is the main active ingredient of Epimedium brevicornum Maxim that is a group of monomers of Chinese medicine plant having vast prospects of application. ICA has a variety of important pharmacological effects, such as protecting cardiovascular system, nourishing yin deficiency, tonifying yang, promoting multiplication and development of osteoblast, regulating immune system, and anti-tumor, thereby having higher medicinal value and health care value. To fully develop this resource, the in-depth researches are done on pharmacological effects and clinical application of ICA, which have abroad developing prospects.
