This paper discussed the necessity and characteristics of residential building steel structure optimization design,researched the existing problems in residential building steel structure design,put forward the promotion design staff professionalism,promotion design professional,es-tablishment of design management system and other improvement measures,so as to ensure the quality and practicality of steel structure design.%论述了民建钢结构优化设计的必要性及特点，对民建钢结构设计存在的问题进行了研究，提出了提升设计人员职业素养、提升设计的专业性、建立设计管理制度等改善措施，以确保钢结构设计的质量与实用性。
