摘要

Just what is an e-book? We seem to be in a time of major flux as far as that definition is concerned. If an electronic book in PDF format is an e-book when it is online, how is it categorized when it's printed: Is it still an e-book? Are all electronic or digital versions of a book equal? The publisher version of an e-book may contain content (in particular multimedia) not available in an aggregator or database version of the title. Is an e-textbook an e-book? Some publishers are not only shying away from using that term now, there are still many widely adopted, core textbooks that are simply not available in e-book format for libraries to license site-wide. The landscape seems to keep shifting in the e-resource world, making it difficult for us path-finding librarians to simultaneously chart a course, provide adequate access, and guide our users.
